Halladay Throws Complete Game

People were all asking the same question over and over. Is this the last time Roy Halladay will be starting for the Toronto Blue Jays?
“You hear the rumours — there were some rumours last year, nothing like it is this year — so I’m thinking there’s a possibility it can happen.” he said. “He’s the best pitcher I’ve ever had the chance to catch, so, absolutely, I thought about it. said Rod Barajas.
“I was hoping he’d have an unbelievable performance, something I could remember.”
Halladay delivered.
Throwing a complete game, Halladay threw a six hitter preformance.
He needed just 105 pitches, 78 strikes, to slice through a pitch-eating lineup with his trademark efficiency, earning his first win in his last four starts coming back from the disabled list.
“The fans were excited, they were cheering,” Halladay said of the cap tip, playing down the moment. “That’s all it was.”
“I really believe being able to handle it at the all-star game, as much of a circus as that was, it kind of allowed me to get back here and put it out of my mind and get back to my job,” said Halladay. “It’s hard to do, you do hear those things, but you’ve got to do the best you can to put it out of mind and focus on what you’re doing.”
Barajas knocked in all three Blue Jay runs, breaking out of an 0-for-20 drought with a two-run double in the second inning taking a 2-1 lead. He also brought home Lyle Overbay in the sixth with a sacrifice fly off Jon Lester (8-7) for a 3-1 lead, and that was en0ugh for Halladay.
“I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of things going through his mind,” said Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston. “It wouldn’t be human not to have those sorts of things going through, wondering where he might go or where he’d like to go, or whatever.”
“This very well could be our last homestand,” Brandy Halladay told the Blue Jays radio broadcast Saturday while discussing the Lady Jays’ annual food drive. “We’re leaving Monday.
Roy Halladay tuned out all the emotions versus the Red Sox, shutting the door after David Ortiz’s sacrifice fly scored Dustin Pedroia in the first. The only other inning he allowed two runners to reach was the third and he retired Ortiz and Jason Bay of Trail, B.C., to escape.
“If it happens you know what direction (the team) is going in,” said Barajas. “We don’t want it to happen, we’d like to keep fighting and keep giving ourselves an opportunity to do something.
“If Doc’s gone and that pretty much means that we’re not looking to compete for a playoff spot. … it’s almost like you’re looking to next year.”
Fielder cruz’s through the Home Run Derby

Prince Fielder beat the big hitters on their own turf.
With slammers Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard out of the derby early, Fielder won the home run derby with steady big hits. Including a jaw dropper at an estimated 503 feet.
The Brewers first baseman outhit Rangers fielder Nelson Cruz by a score of 6-5 at Busch stadium where St. Louis natives were sure that one of their own would get the title.
“It’s what I expected. This is Albert’s stadium and Ryan is from here,” Fielder said. “I was just happy I was able to put on a show and I’m glad I won.”
Pujols, a Cardinals star. And Howard who is from St. Louis were both knocked out in the second round.
Pujols, who leads the majors with 32 homers, needed a late rally just to avoid elimination in the first round. With one out to work with, he connected on consecutive swings to force a three-player swing-off for the final spot in round two, sending the red-clad crowd of 45,981 into a high-fiving frenzy.
“I wish I would have put a better show for our fans,” Pujols said. “I was nervous a little bit.”
After he was done, he got a standing ovation anyway.
St. Pierre and Lesner still got the Belt

Both Georges “Rush” St. Pierre and Brock Lesnar both dominated all five round fights to retain their championship belts.
“I love it. Keep going,” Lesnar, who bullied and beat Mir up on the ground in an effective but not very pretty performance, said of the jeers.
St. Pierre drew cheers on his win, while Brock Lesnar drew boos in his win, which ended in the second round.
St. Pierre showed off his expert wrestling skills and all-round fighting skills in winning a unanimous decision over the bruising Brazilian Thiago Alvas before a sellout crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
St. Pierre said afterward he hurt his groin during the fray.
“I don’t know what happened but I’m in real bad pain,” he said.
Minutes later, Lesnar came out to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and looked mean doing it. Mir waited in the cage as the arena rocked. Lesnar, a 2-1 favourite, did not touch gloves when Mir offered.
The ref ended Lesnar’s punishment at 1:48 in the second round.
As the 6′3 Lesnar did his victory lap the crowd booed. He gave them both fingers.
“Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass,” said Lesnar, adding he had pulled it out and “beat him on the head with it” this time.
Lesnar won’t score points with the UFC for promising to celebrate with a beer that isn’t the organization’s marquee sponsor. Not to mention suggesting he might enjoy his wife’s company as well, phrasing it slightly more colourfully.
St. Pierre (19-2) took Alves down after 50 seconds. And when Alves got back up, GSP took him right back down again. He then rammed Alves (22-5) to the ground and took his back but Alves got up again.
St. Pierre’s left thigh already reddened from Alves’ leg kicks, succeeded on another big takedown later in the round but Alves once again got up.
St. Pierre worked his wrestling skills after another monster takedown in the second, making Alves bleed with an elbow. It was a bad round for the Brazilian, whose face was pretty messed up.
Alves, 25, was on his back again in themiddle of the third but managed to escape further destruction by getting up. Alves kept moving forward like a shark but GSP, his face beginning to show some welts, dodged the bullet.
The Brazilian was in real danger as the round ended, knocked down and taking big damage from elbows. He looked battered as he returned to his corner.
In the fourth, more of the same. A huge GSP takedown and the Canadian worked his way quickly into a mount position, seemingly trying for a choke. But Alves wriggled free somehow and St. Pierre was on his back, for the first time in almost two years. St. Pierre eluded damage and worked his way to his feet.
Alves tried for a kick and St. Pierre caught it, putting him once again on his. The round ended with Alves fighting off a rear naked choke.
There were three more takedowns in the fifth round. Alves somehow kept coming but with less sting or precision.
It was a night to remember of fights. What a card it was! Be sure to watch the highlights on ESPN if you are in USA. Or TSN if you are in Canada.
And don’t forget to chant before you go to bed GSP! GSP!
UFC 100 Saturday Night

An event that sold out before it even reached the general public.
Around 11,000 tickets were sold in pre-sale.
A companion Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay is expected to draw between 30,000 to 50,000 on Friday and Saturday. The UFC has also issued 240 media credentials, a record for the organization.
The sport has changed since then. It is regulated by athletic commissions. Multi-fight tournaments are history and there are rules, medicals and the kind of oversight boxing gets.
The sports remains violent, however. Blood can be spilled and post-fight hospital visits are not unusual. Still, while it’s not for everyone, MMA’s appeal continues to grow.
On Saturday night, Henderson takes on English middleweight Michael Bisping in a battle of rival coaches from Season 9 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show.
In the other marquee matchups, Montreal welterweight Georges St. Pierre defends his welterweight title against Thiago Alves and heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar faces Frank Mir in a rematch of the UFC 81 bout that Mir won by submission.
“We’ve got three pay per views sitting on stage right now,” White said, pointing to the six fighters.

Former NFL Star Found Dead

Former NFL all-star QB Steve Mcnair was found dead in his home Saturday afternoon after suffering several gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
The bodies were discovered Saturday afternoon by McNair’s longtime friend Wayne Neeley, who said he rents the condo with McNair.
Police said a witness saw (Steve) McNair arrive at the condo in the upscale Rutledge Hill neighbourhood between 1:30 and 2 a.m. ET Saturday and that Kazemi’s vehicle was already there. The condominium is located within walking distance of an area filled with restaurants and nightspots, a few blocks from the Cumberland River and within view of the Titans stadium.
McNair, a four-time Pro Bowler, led the Tennessee Titans within a yard of forcing overtime in the 2000 Super Bowl, which they lost 23-16 to the St. Louis Rams. He also played for the Baltimore Ravens before retiring in April 2008.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of today’s tragic news regarding the death of Steve McNair. He was a player who I admired a great deal,” said New England Patriots senior football adviser Floyd Reese, who was GM of the Titans when McNair played for them. “He was a tremendous leader and an absolute warrior. He felt like it was his responsibility to lead by working hard every day, no matter what.”
We will all remember Steve McNair as one of the greats.
Ryan Smyth Traded to Los Angelas

Ryan Smyth was traded to the Los Angelas Kings for Kyle Quincey, Tom Pressing, and a fifth round pick.
Smyth, who posted 26 goals and 33 assists in 77 games last season, said he’s excited about heading to L.A.
“They have great young players,” he said. ”I’ve always thought the world of (Anze) Kopitar since playing against him at the World Championships in Austria where he dominated. To play with him and Drew Doughty and (Dustin) Brown…these are great young players and I’m excited about that.”
Kings GM Dean Lombardi also stated that Ryan was the type of player that fit with the Kings. He said he fits the overall identity they have in Colorado.
“As a family, we’ve really enjoyed Colorado,” he said. ”It’s been a great place to play and a great place to live and I really think if our team had been healthy over the last two years we would have been a lot better.”
Returning the Favor

The Saskatchewan Roughriders took advantage of B.C. turnovers and won their opening game 28-24.
Eddie Davis forced B.C. quarterback Buck Pierce to fumble, and Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant would score on a 10 yard one later.
B.C. (0-1) returned the favour two series later when Ryan Phillips picked off a Durant pass intended for Chris Getzlaf and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown.
The Roughriders had Pierce’s number. The B.C. drive ended with an interception by cornerback Omarr Morgan. This led to a touchdown by Roughriders runningback Hughe Charles.
In the first 30 minutes, B.C. and Saskatchewan both combined for about 10 turnovers.
Durant would add two more to the list, throwing 2 interceptions on two Roughrider series.
But two field goals and two converts by Luca Congi kept the roughriders in the game.
NOTES: Hughe Charles was in the game for an injured Wes Cates who isn’t expected to return until week three against Montreal.
